MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA — The West Jamaica Conference (WJC) has launched a significant humanitarian operation across its four parishes: St. James, Westmorland, Hanover, and St.Elizabeth, dedicating JMD $14 million to purchase and distribute essential food supplies to itsmembership and families within the community.
Thus far, as part of its sustained commitment to hurricane recovery efforts, the West Jamaica Conference has already distributed over 1,000 care packages, offering essential non-perishable food items and supplies to families facing immediate hardship across the four affected parishes. Pastor James Sonlin, one of WJC Hurricane Melissa Relief Coordinators, expressed that, “persons have been very receptive; they have expressed their need for others who are also desperately in need. They have been appreciative of the kindness that we have expressed in sharing these
small packages, even though it is not much, but they believe it is worthwhile to receive these to help in their situation”.
Over 1,000 hot meals were distributed to individuals in the Catherine Hall community and surrounding areas, where more than 1,000 homes were devastated by floodwaters that rose up to 16 feet high.This outreach provided a tangible form of comfort and sustenance, offering a much-needed break for residents preoccupied with the daunting task of cleaning up and salvaging their homes following the storm's destruction. As these initiatives remain ongoing, the successful execution of the distributions powerfully underscores the importance of ensuring continuous support and tangible sustenance reaches those most in need.
