It was a historic day for the West Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, as hundreds gathered to witness the dedication of the recently constructed Administrative Offices, from which the Seventh-day Adventist Headquarters in Western Jamaica now resides.

The building was dedicated on Sunday September 24, 2017, during a special service held on the West Jamaica Conference (WJC) grounds.

“We dedicate a Headquarters Office of the Church in a time of calamity and destruction,” said Dr. James Daniels, Vice President of the Inter American Division of Seventh-day Adventists, who rendered the main address during the ceremony of dedication. “This Office represents the Church and is intended to be a Voice of Hope,” he added.

Daniels further highlighted the integral role of the Church’s presence in the volatile Mount Salem Community. Addressing the gathering under the theme: Find Your Hurricane Shelter, he emphatically expressed that the building should not be seen as a ‘decorative fixture’ to the community.

“This building” said Daniels, “is not designed to make the Adventist Church look good. It is intended to be a place where hope is emanated and given to people who are hopeless.”

The potent and inspirational words resonated with Civic and National Representatives, Leaders from the Jamaica Union Conference, Representatives from the Cayman Islands Conference, as well as Local Church Officers from the WJC Constituency, all of whom beamed with pride as they watched the proceedings.

“It is my payer and hope that from these offices and the work of the Church in Western Jamaica, that the gospel will be promulgated,” said the President of the Jamaica Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Pastor Everett Brown. “I pray that this church will continue to impact the lives of men and women in the Community that it serves,” he ended.

In addition to the structural challenges affecting the previous building housing the WJC Headquarters, there was urgent need to establish an additional set of offices with the aim of providing greater efficiency and service to the Constituency. Thus, the Executive Committee voted to begin the process of Constructing a new Administrative Building. The construction process began in October 2016 and lasted for approximately ten months.

President of the Cayman Islands Conference, Pastor Shian O’Connor, congratulated the West Jamaica Conference on its achievement and was delighted to share in the historic moment. “There is an umbilical cord that connects the two conferences. We are so proud of what the Lord has done, and we pray that God will continue to bless its leadership.”

The Administrative Building is equipped with a Board Room, Worship Room, Lunch Room and Kitchenette, State of the Art Restrooms, Offices, Resource and Counselling Centres and Outside Balcony & Viewing Areas.
