Seventy- four (74) children were commissioned to positively impact lives in their communities, during the recently concluded graduation exercise from the Child Preachers’ Training Institute held on Sabbath August 10, 2019. The annual event was organized by the Children’s Ministries Department of the Conference and took place at the Seventh-day Adventist Conference Centre between August 7- 10, 2019. Approximately one hundred and ninety-five children were in attendance from the four parishes in the Constituency.
“The Child Preachers’ Training Institute is a two-year programme,” said Mrs. Carol Smythe- James who serves as Children’s Ministries Director of the Conference. “Seventy-four (74) of the one hundred and ninety-five (195) children registered this year, have just now completed their second year in the programme. The remaining 121 new comers, will complete level two of their training next year when they return” the Director stated.
Annually the Child Preachers’ Training Institute caters to children attending the Seventh-day Adventist Church, providing them with the requisite tools to prepare and preach sermons. The Preachers are quite often integrated in service at the Local Church level as an avenue for them to impact others of their kind.
“It was overwhelming to know that the children came to be trained” said Smythe- James. “I could see their zeal as they wanted to learn more about how to share the word of God. We want them to go back to their churches and lead out in multiple several evangelistic series, so as to win their family members and friends for Jesus” she ended.
Topics addressed at the institute included: Sermon Preparation, How to use Technology in Evangelism, Public Speaking, among others. Many children spoke highly of the impact the programme had on them.
“I am so glad that I came to the Child Preachers’ Training Institute” stated Jhora Farquharson, a recent graduate of the programme. “I have learned so many things ranging from how to preach a sermon and how to write it! I even learned about how to use technology in preaching and I am so happy to report that right now, I am utilizing that because I want to bring others to Christ. I want all my friends to be baptized” she ended.
In addition to Johra, Jhareen Charlton (another recent graduate) testifies of the impact this programme has had on his life. “The Child Preachers’ Training has really impacted my life” he stated. It has taught me how to write sermons and by the grace of God, I will be a better preacher in the future” he stated.
